What's up guys,

I haven't been on a computer for the last few days because I went home to Guelph for the long weekend.  It was a nice break because its pretty much been my first days off since the new year.  I brought my laptop home planning on playing a couple sessions but when I did have time I really didn't feel like playing at all.  That's fine though, I don't want to burn myself out.

Anyways before the weekend, I think Thursday or Friday, I had some time and  decided to one of the Full Tilt Online Poker Series (FTOPS) tournaments.  It was the $216 Heads-Up Pot Limit Omaha tournament.  It was a shoot-out format, so basically if you win you go on.  I like these types of tournaments and if you remember I went deep last time I played one of these, but that was holdem.  My first match went pretty quickly against a weak opponent, he simply over valued all his hands (probably a holdem player) and I was able to take advantage of that and win convincingly.  The second match was pretty much went the same way, I was in no real jeopardy of losing and won that in about 20 mins.  The shitty part about this type of tournament is that after your match is over, you have to wait for everyone else in the tournament to finish before you can proceed, can take up to an hour sometimes.

I move onto round 3 and I get matched up against a super nit (tight-passive player that avoids confrontations).  This guy would limp every hand, and check/fold every flop unless he flopped the nuts.  This was a deep stacked tournament so I knew this would be a long match.  After about 45 mins I grinded him down and have a 2-1 chip lead.  I knew if I continued to play small pots with him I would have no chance of losing.  But we end up getting it all-in on the flop, it was basically a coinflip, I brick out, he doubles up.. and we're back to our original stacks.  Man I was spun, I was getting mentally exhausted from playing a million small pots then I had to start all over again.  So I ended up doing the same thing, grinded him all the way down and finally knocked him out in a little over 2 hours.

I enter round 4 and I can see my opponent was super aggressive, which is much more common in PLO and I'm used to playing guys like this.  I won a few big pots early and was looking to close out the match quick.  When I had a 2 to 1 chip lead on him we got it all in on the flop with my top set vs his flish draw and he hits it.  From that point on he had the momentum and it was tough to get back into it.  He took a bit of a chip lead on me, when we played a huge pot where where we got it all-in on the turn with my nut straight vs his two pair and gut shot to a bigger straight.  I was a 77.5% favorite to win the hand, but unfortunately he hit his gut shot and knocked me out around 60th of the 800 entrants.  I was pretty spun to be honest.  I felt like I had a good chance to win this tournament if I just ran well.  I played for about 8 hours and really didn't make that much.  I ended up taking the rest of the night off because I was in no mood to play anymore.  To be honest I'm just not used to the emotional mood swings of mult-table tournaments anymore.  Back in the day I would play so many that when I got knocked out of one, I didn't give a shit, but now when I play once a month and go deep and get rocked... it makes me hate tournaments.

Today I'm going to get back into the swing of things and start grinding again.  Last week wasn't a great week but I know it was just variance kicking in.  I'm looking to close out this month strong and also work on a few things that have been bugging me.

On a different note, I just found out that a guy I know, not a close friend, but more of a friend of a  friend, had a girlfriend who was on that flight that crashed in Buffalo.  A good buddy of mine called me to tell me about and I nearly got sick after he told me.  Its just fucking awful to hear something like that.  I got that wrenching knot in my stomach putting myself in his shoes.  Hopefully he's alright and my condolences go out to him and his family.

Sorry to end the blog on a sad note, but don't really feel like typing anymore.
