I'm Beyond White Trash
For those who watch Celebrity apprentice you will know what I'm talking about from my title, if you don't, click here (2:30 mark) for a quick run down of what Joan Rivers had to say about poker players. I'll start this rant by saying that I don't get offended easily, and even in this situation, I'm not offended. But over the past month, this is the second time someone has referred to poker players in this manner and I'll admit its starting to tick me off.
I understand how the general public views poker players, I've been dealing with it for years. And to be honest, I don't blame a lot of people... well fuck them for judging, but when you don't understand the game of poker it just looks like gambling. If someone came up to me and said they make a living going to the casino playing random table games, I would automatically think they are degenerate low life who will probably be broke within the year. Thats how many people view poker pokers and thats fine with me. Back in the day I would sit and argue with people trying to explain to them that poker is a game of skill and not just luck, I would defend poker to the ground. Till I came to the realization that some people are just ignorant and/or jealous to the fact that someone half their age can make twice as much as them sitting at a poker table. There are poker players out there who continue to fight the rights of poker players and I respect that. I just don't have the will or strength to be one of those people.
Now getting back to what Joan said about stereo typing poker players as thieves/murders/scum etc. is getting a little out of hand. I won't get into how there are multiple poker organizations out there making millions of dollars for charities, or that multiple professionals donate a high % of their winning to foundations in need. I'll take it personally when she says the money I use to live and one day might support my family with, has blood on it. Give me a fucking break, seriously. I know I'm no true hero like a teacher, doctor or fireman... but poker has nothing to do with being a criminal. I mentioned earlier there was two things, and the second was when I was watching Drive This on the score and one of the hosts went off on poker players and saying things like "I always watch my wallet in my back pocket when I'm around poker players." God some of these statements are so fucking stupid I'm spun that I'm taking the time to even write about them. I would love to know how me sitting at a poker table, mentally battling with opponents, has anything to do with being pickpocketers or thieves. It doesn't even make sense. Obviously there are bad seeds out there who may happen to be poker players, but thats the same as everything. Its like hearing that a NBA player got a DUI and say that all basketball players are drunk drivers.
I could probably go on and on about this topic but frankly don't have the energy. Like I mentioned earlier some people are just fucking morons and it comes with the territory of being a poker player to ignore them. And I won't even go on to say that I hope one day people will respect the game of poker and not look at poker players like scum, because I really don't give a shit. I'll go on to do what I love to do with a big fucking smile on my face, and if that doesn't continue to work... then maybe I'll consider being a thief. And the first person I'll rob and bitch slap is that cunt Joan Rivers. (lol, nah.. I still think she's pretty funny)
End Rant.
